Decentralization of Music and Dance, Distance Education and E-Learning Department

This Section has been set up within the School for Performing Arts to look after all activities pertaining to the promotion and decentralization of Indian Music and Dance across the island and Distance Education and E-Learning. The Section is primarily responsible for the teaching of Indian Music and Dance in the Mahatma Gandhi Secondary Schools, the Regional Centres, Womens' Centres and Socio-cultural Organizations, and for developing courses to be offered through Distance Education (DE) mode and for designing and developing e-learning materials.

Presently, 20 Educators, 5 Assistant Instructors, 21 Part-timers are providing their services in different disciplines of Indian Music and Dance.

The Department has as Goals the following:

To continue to offer existing courses (Award, Non-award and Enrichment Courses) in Music and Dance in different centres across the island
To mount and offer new courses to cater to different needs of people
To ensure that adequate resources are obtained for proper functioning of the departmental activities
To convert some existing modules/courses in the different disciplines offered at the MGI into DE format
To promote technology-enhanced formal and informal education
To promote greater accessibility, cost-efficiency, equity and quality with regard to modules/courses developed and offered
To ensure that the Department has the necessary infrastructure and resources to fulfill its mission
To work in close collaboration with other departments and institutions
To ensure that research work is carried out in its areas of activities
